hmv records in Vancouver

well we have another entry into the discriminator hall of shame
the other day I got a call for a job from Abbotsford security
the job was acting as a doorman and stopping shoplifters at the Robson Street
store not a difficult job to someone in a wheelchair by the managers said
he would have to check the client in the morning while
guess what the client had a complaint! Their complaints I could not
run up to the third floor if there is a problem. The problem of their complaints
is simple the door guards are not allowed to leave their posts unless they're relieved
and no one runs upstairs like myself they take the elevator so their complaints are bogus and discriminatory it looks like they just do not like someone working there who is disabled because it doesn't look right to them

companies in Vancouver that are equal opportunity employers

well I found a few companies that are truly are equal opportunity employers. Windsor security is at least willing to talk to someone who is disabled about employment and try to find a place to put you securitas.ca is another company that appear to be willing to hire someone who is disabled but they are a Union company and have to do things by seniority so they to offer jobs sites to hirred employees first if they can find a spot for newly hired disabled employee they will put you to work the only other place in is a telemarketer at 20333 Fraser Highway in Langley bc so there are employers that are that will hire someone who is disabled unlike Concord security or securiguard
withConcorde security they do the malls in the lower mainland i over the past two months made several trips to the malls at various times and while I did seea few guards limping like they had a prosthesis I did not see one security officer in a wheelchair! As for securiguard like Concorde securitywhen I suggested working in the call center the excuse was its not wheelchair accessible and it appears they were not willing to go to the government to get the funding to make itaccessible or modify their call center so someone who is disabled could work in it these two companies are always hiring and advertising security officers the excuse given by Mr. aron Eatom a human resources manager at Concorde is as follows
I have received your email and read your complaint concerning the conversation you had with our Recruitment Manager.
Currently with your Partial Training BST Certification from the Justice Institute, ense in thesewe would only be able to apply for a Restricted Security Patrol license through Security Programs. Due to this, we would have to ensure that any position we were looking to employ you for met with the qualifications that your license would allow. As the majority of our sites are public facilities, there was no question put on your ability to patrol, deal with the public, problem solve, or observe and report. The concern that we, and Security Programs would have in these work environments, would be in regards to Public Safety, namely the ability to navigate the facility in a time of emergency. Unfortunately in these facilities we have little time to react with the first aid emergencies, power outages, bomb threats, and physical takedowns of suspects. I have spoken with Security Programs in the past when we have run into this licensing issue with other applicants, and it is through experience that I know the restrictions they would apply to your lic types of environments.n
strange i called a asked them and they quoted the Security Programs licening act and the section of the act dealing with licensing of disabled person I have attached a copy. every word you have written in your e-mail is an outright lie the only people have any concern is yourself and Liz

equal opportunity employer and as someone who is disabled and otherwise qualified to work as a security officer and has their BST one and two limited that sounds like something very hopeful!! Yet here in Canada a lot of employers claim to be equal opportunity but what they really mean is we will hire women and men and pay the same.
Well that is a good thing but when a county like Concorde security that seems to hier anyone but those in a wheelchair and because they hire a select few people with out highly visible disabilities lay claim to being equal opportunity employer and same with

Securiguard
Securiguard is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.

the above line straight off their website almost a month ago I went into their offices for a interview I was told at the time they would have to wait until their head HR manager came back from vacation then the excuse was they had to get permission from security licensing to hire a disabled guard the excuse was from both these companies, but in fact security licensing says all they need is the address of the site and the duties you will be doing seemingly use this as an excuse not hire someone in a wheelchair and has their BST one and two limited [BST 12 limited means that you've passed the written portions of the basic security training course but were not allowed are unable to take the physical portion of BST 2]
when is the government going to step in and take the companies to task that claim to be equal opportunity employers and make them truly become equal opportunity employers were all are hired not just using it as advertising ploy to make themselves look good

sexuality sex and the disabled

you had a strokeor you been in a car wreck and now are paraplegic with no feeling below the waist
you and your fiancé are still planning a getting married, to comfort you in the hospital she lies down beside you fully clothed and then the fun starts.
Someone visiting the guy in the next bed wonders in some lady in her 50s and she says in horror of you even think about the one beside you as it was her business she's shocked that you are disabled and even thinking about going through with the marriage or your fiancé's parents are horrified at the thought of their daughter being married to someone with no feeling below the waist. And they ask how will you have children and in talking to women who have been an accident that has done this to them you get even worse hot even think about having children is often the question of fact is our society well very advanced in when it comes to sexuality and sex in the able-bodied is still very much in the Victorian era when it comes to the idea of anyone being disabled having an interest in the opposite sex. It is almost as though they expect those of us who are differently able to basically be sexless adult manikins like you would see in the store myself I am married and have been for 25 years and I'll be darned if I'm going to give up being a lover to my wife, things might be a bit different because still make love but we just can't do it the way we used to because my left side is not having the strength anymore. I recall talking to young lady last summer while i was in the hospital who now was paralyzed from the waist down at her, it was she may not build a jump her fiancé's phones like she used to but by God even she could not feel him inside of her when they made love she still has no feeling above the waist and could quite enjoy his hands on her breasts and back so she fully extended to have children and enjoy her future husband love as a sexy active woman. I did a long search to find any books on sex sexuality and disability and the only book I found with sex sexuality and the disabled, it is a really good book and gives a lot of advice to those of us who now find ourselves in different circumstances with our bodies but don't ever think that gal in the wheelchair does not want a husband or lover just because she can't move like a so-called normal woman or that guy who can no longer walk does not want a woman a lover and a wife like any other man . These are basic human needs and losing feeling below your waist or paralysis from a stroke changes that
.I speak from experience I had a blind lover one time that because of epileptic seizures and lost all feeling from the top of her thighs to below her waist in the front she still wanted a man inside of her making love to her so lose your Victorian hangups on the disabled wanting a lover or a husband or wife

we have filled the position\not

you apply for work the evening before you get it a call from the manager wanting to interview you, everything is going great and he wants you to come in the next day for an interview until you mention you are in a wheelchair and suddenly the walls come down. He tell s you to come in anyways and the next morning just before you leave here your e-mail program beep! You're on your way out the door and figure okay I'll get it when I get home you then are right for your interview only to find that the manageris not there and the assistant manager does not have the employment application for you to fill out . Basically you waste a couple hours and what's worse the assistant manager tells you they are still hiring, and when you get home you can find the e-mail sent that morning saying the position has been filled.
And because of what the assistant manager said you knows is not true, everything was going fine until you mentioned your wheelchair. And there is the job ads you answer, that say to drop off your resume. The only problem is when you get there. No wheelchair access to the store and the manager shrugs their shoulders and says oh well Rogers chocolate in Gastown is an example of this they had a help wanted sign right now in their window and no wheelchair access even for customers or so it seems and unfortunately this situation is nothing unusual.
There are a lot of stores in the gvrd that are like this despite the human rights act the store operators or building owners cannot be bothered to put in a simple plywood ramp for wheelchairs. I spoke to one lady who is disabled and uses a cane, she does taxes in new Westminster and a lot of her clients are disabled people in wheelchairs she told me she is asked and asked her landlord to put in a simple plywood ramp so her customers in wheelchairs can get into her office and he keep refusing because it would cost him a few hundred dollars ! What is wrong with our society that gives so much lip service to empowering our disabled citizens yet when push comes to shove the same society and individuals are not willing to back up their words with actions

interview backtracking

you're looking for work, you've been stuck on the $850 a month disability allowance the government pays you.
You have struggled to get training so you can work, and now you're looking for your first job
.You have the qualifications and you send out your resumes! And now the employers start calling you to come in for interviews. And everything is going fine and the employer is interested in your job skills over the phone then you mention you need a chair access , or you are an amputee, and then backtracking and excuses and withdrawal of the interview start !!
In the USA employers know that if they pull this sort of nonsense a disabled person can go to the local Americans with disability office, and file a simple complaint and the employer will have to answer some questions about their hiring practices they do not want to.
Unfortunately here in Canada employers know all they have to face is the human rights act, and the human rights commission the federal government runs and even then employers know it can take years before a complaint gets before the commission and even then their chances of winning are very good. The laws here in Canada really do not protect our disabled citizens. About 2% of the estimated million people here in Canada that are classified as disabled work, the other 98% most are capable of working with adaptive software or with minor workplace modifications but unfortunately our society still seem to have the Victorian mentality when it comes to the disabled of out of sight out of mind.
The ironic thing is employer is that routinely hire disabled people, and truly are equal opportunity employers have found that their disabled workers are usually the best workers they have, the most conscientious, and the hardest working.
The only program Canada has for employers use a program called the opportunities fund
employers do not get tax breaks or incentives in our country for hiring our disabled citizens unlike in the USA it has improved somewhat, over 40 years ago but it still needs further to go!
The disabled have the same dreams hopes and aspirations as our able-bodied citizens, when are we going to let them become full members of our society. Heck I just had to fight the government for over a year in order to get the right to return to work because I am now in a wheelchair and classified as currently disabled
